Prof. Madhavi Desai is an architect, researcher and a teacher. She is an adjunct faculty at Faculty of Architecture, CEPT University, Ahmedabad since 1986. She has had Research Fellowships from ICSSR, the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture in MIT, USA, Sarai, New Delhi and the Getty Foundation, USA. She is a founder member of Women Architects Forum. She is the co-author of Architecture and Independence, Oxford University Press, New Delhi (1997), Architectural Heritage of Gujarat, the Government of Gujarat, Gandhinagar, (2012) and The Bungalow in Twentieth Century India, Ashgate, UK (2012). She is also the author of Traditional Architecture, Council of Architecture, Pune (2007) and the editor of Women and the Built Environment in India, Zubaan, New Delhi (2007). Currently she is engaged in researching a book on Women in Architecture in India. She was a visiting scholar at the department of gender and women's studies in U C Berkeley, USA in 2014.
