I caught up with Aarti Aggarwal, the founder of “House of Design” when she was in Delhi recently to launch "Canvas of Life" at the India Design ID. Her love for furniture started during her childhood days, when she would see her Dad working out beautiful creations with wood in the backyard. Seeing a log of wood, being converted into a charming piece of furniture is something that inspires her till this very day.

Here are the excerpts from my chat with her at the India Design ID 2015, Delhi:-

What inspires you to be a Furniture Designer?
Furniture use to be my Dad's hobby. I've always seen carpenter in the backyard. The magic of a log of wood converting into a piece of furniture, is somewhere to grip. Furniture is very artistic because I feel it's a canvas on a 3D scale rather on a flat 2D scale which really fascinates me.

Tell us something about “Knock On Wood”
We are in the process of changing our identity from “House of Design” to “Knock on Wood”. We are taking a new direction and we finally figured out the way we want to go. We feel bespoke in the execution of projects in everything, where furniture is concern. We do one-off pieces beautifully well.

Retail is also one of our area of focus. KnockOnWood is now creating a line of bespoke furniture which is one-off pieces of people's home. We are planning to come up with new collections once or twice, in a year. It can be five or ten pieces which are different, apart from catering to private homes and other projects that we keep doing.

What are your thoughts on the Furniture and Interior Design market in Delhi?
The people of Delhi are very passionate about furniture design. They are houseproud people; and furniture is an integral part of how your house will eventually look. They spend a lot of time, effort and money in getting the best design for their houses.
