India is a diverse nation possessing high potential for a rapid economic development. Currently, one of the most important concepts laid out by the government include ‘smart cities’. As a major initiative towards achieving the vision of high standards of urban infrastructural development, The Economic Times announces the 3rd edition of country’s biggest Architecture and Design Summit 2015, scheduled on 10th & 11th September 2015 in Bangalore.  The summit will revolve around the theme ‘TRANSFORMATION 2020’, which extensively aims to capture the main design vision of the nation.

Transformation 2020: The 3rd edition of The Economic Times Architecture & Design Summit 2015 believes in regional phases of discussions and therefore focuses on 5 cities in the southern region of India: Cochin, Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore and Vizag. ‘TRANSFORMATION 2020’ will enable break-through discussions and seamless interactions, thereby extending viable options for the tier 2 cities of southern India by exploring, comprehending and adapting to new technologies, trends and  sustainable designs, keeping in mind various challenges like land crunches, rocketing resource costs, managing talent pool and uncertainty in the surroundings.

Focus: The panel discussions at Transformation 2020 will generate understanding of the role of states in aligning architecture with India’s transformation agenda and will realise the research based trends for urban transformation for residential and commercial areas. Contribution of ideas and thoughts for the creation of unique footprint of designs will be a value addition to Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) for 500 Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna: Housing for All by 2022 along with 100 smart cities. In addition to that, the congregation will address the need-gap for the vertical and horizontal metamorphosis that is linked with the three smart city projects being developed by the government.

Students: Design institutes across the country are open for participation, which showcases their future vision of India within two categories – Best Academic Project and Best Design of Futuristic Cities. The grand finale in Bangalore will establish a global outreach platform for local talents through Architecture and Design Awards. The winners get to receive an internship with a renowned architect, trophy and certificate of recognition.
