Doesn’t that old lampshade in boring white or beige bring the whole place down and get on your nerves? Don’t worry. It’s not that late to redeem it. Let’s give it a try and revamp your old and plain lampshade into something cool and fun.

Paper power

Take a few leaves out of a magazine. Cut them randomly. Now glue these cut papers on the old lamp shade in a manner that it looks like a collage of prints. You can do the same with gift wrapping papers/old greeting cards.

Ribbons and more

Buy a few colourful ribbons. Now take one ribbon and attach it to the top edge of your lampshade using hot glue across the rim. Stretch the ribbon and attach it to the bottom edge too with the glue. Now take another ribbon and start again from the top, overlap it a bit and glue to the bottom edge. Do it with all the ribbons till the entire lamp shade is covered in pretty colourful ribbons. Now hide the top and bottom rims with a braided rim.

A stitch in time

Buy some fabric (aida, evenweave etc) for cross stitching. Cut the fabric according to the size of the lamp shade. Now print a pattern on the fabric and start cross stitching. Once finished, glue the fabric to the lamp shade and admire your lovely creation every time the light shines.

Bows and Buttons

Glue some handmade paper/linen fabric on the lampshade. Next, glue small and large buttons in different colours on the paper/fabric in the design of your choice. You may also make flowers, alphabets using them for your kids’ bedroom.

Play it up with wool

Take a few yarns in 3-4 shades but remember they must complement each other. Now put some hot glue on your lampshade starting from the base and finish it to the top. Now take one colour of yarn and start putting on the bottom edge of the lampshade. Rotate it a few times till it covers 1/3 or ¼ (depending on the number of yarns) of the lampshade. Now introduce the second colour. But after few rotations of the second colour, rotate the first colour a few more times and gently discontinue it. Do the same with the third colour when your lampshade is 2/3 covered.

Try making one today. Remember, your imagination is the only limit.
