How to Choose Ceiling Lights? - Tips & IdeasBy Smitha Jose
Product Guide Tweet 0 Comment(s)
Lighting is one of the crucial elements to be given due attention while designing or remodeling a house. It is indeed the lighting that brings out the best of a room in terms of looks, functionality and overall comfort. And when it comes to lighting, Ceiling lights are an indispensable source. Whether used all by themselves or in combination with table, floor or wall lights, ceiling lights are the most important of the lighting products as they are a kind of fixed investment.
So, here we are, with some tips that will come handy while choosing ceiling lights for your home.
What role are they going to play ?
Countless as the products are in this category, it is difficult to zero in on one particular form. But when you know what functions you want them to play, things are easier and clearer. For example, elegant chandeliers are the best choice when it is about creating a warm ambience for entertainment room or dining area. Pendant lamps are proved to be great task lights and are a great option for kitchen islands. The rooms that need equal amount of light throughout should go for some recessed lights along with a larger center lighting.
How high is your ceiling?
As ceiling is the backdrop for ceiling lights, the height of the ceiling has a great say here. The lights should be hung or placed at a height which serves the purpose without being over board. If your ceiling is 8 ft or more high, you can easily opt for a hanging light like a chandelier or pendant lamps. For a ceiling lower than that, flush mount or semi flush mount lights are safer to play with as you don’t have much of a vertical space. In any case, the prime focus is that you get the desired amount of light without choking up the space.
How to work out the size of the light?
Size of a ceiling light largely depends on the size of the room as it is more than just a source of light. In many rooms, they play as the ultimate focal points too. Therefore, to make its presence felt, the size should be selected according to the room. A room of 12 ft × 12 ft will need a ceiling light that has a diameter or width anywhere between 22 to 27 inches. There is nothing odd in having 2 ceiling lights (preferably similar ones) if your room is extraordinarily large as you would not wish to keep any part of the room at dark!
Does it blend with the look?
Just like any other accessories that accentuate the look and comfort of the room, lights too are amazing accent pieces when chosen correctly. The style of the ceiling light that goes well with the look or theme you have chosen for your house can make them the cynosure.
Hope these ‘things to check’ list was of some help. Make sure you always go with the dimensions of your room while buying ceiling lights to make the most out of it.
