Studio Apartment, why not? - Benefits and ChallengesBy Smitha Jose
Decor Tips Tweet 0 Comment(s)
We all dream of owning a house- a house that has 2 or more bedrooms, expansive living and dining room and so on. But never had any one dreamt of living in a studio apartment. Afterall, why are we so averse to this concept of single room apartment ? Just because it will be hard to hide the things which we are too lazy to sort out? Or is privacy a concern? But as is with any other situation, let's not completely rule out the idea without giving it a serious thought.
Let me tell you how studio apartment looks a great option to me. There are plenty of upsides and a little of down about studio apartment.
Firstly, having a large single room makes it much easier for decorating and maintaining ( cleaning is what I mean here). The decor items you will have to buy will definitely be half or even lesser of what you buy for a BHK flat. You also save drastically on your electricity bills for obvious reasons.
Secondly, it brings out the creative side in you that have been lying dormant. How? When you are faced with 'limited space', you tend to make out newer and better ways of decorating and arranging stuff at your home. You just can't pile up things anymore! You become much more organised and disciplined in the process.
Many a times, our lazy selves find it hard to go to a room to reach out to things or keep them back in place. But since you have almost every thing at just a jump away in a studio apartment, things will get due attention.
Moreover you settle for sleeker and simpler variants of decor that gives your room an uncluttered and stylish look .Every corner of the room gets due attention since you cannot afford to leave them empty.
Now, lets talk about the downsides of small space living and how that curse can be turned into a blessing.
You might say you have to trade off your privacy, say for, the bedroom. Here's the solution. Bedrooms, or rather bedroom space can be isolated from the rest of space by having floor long curtain dividers and bookshelves or showcases that serves dual purpose. You have divided the space with no actual dividers!
Not enough space for stuff? Or is it just unnecessary stuff? There are lot of things we might have at home which has never been used up nor will be in near future. So, a have a deeper look that the content of your house and you will find what exactly deserves to be in.
Now, furniture can bother you since its a major investment you have done. Why not think of exchanging them for some sleeker ones that can be a real space saver and make the room stylish?
Looking at the merit and demerits, it is clear – upsides outweighs the downside. So be elated if you ever have to shift to a studio apartment. Afterall it's a happy home you need and not a big house.
