With immense pleasure and pride we would like to inform you all about the successful organizing  of the conference on  Sustainable Smart City in India (2nd Edition) held at Dr. TMA Pai International Convention Centre, Mangaluru on 16th and 17th of November 2015.

The conference was co-organised by Mangalore  City Corporation and supported by Smart Cities India Foundation.

The theme of the 2nd Edition  conference was 'Transforming Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities towards a sustainable and smarter future - A concept which is gaining momentum in the present day of unsustainable practices that are negating the objectives of development.

The 2 day Conference was a huge success with the solemn presence of VIPs from across the government authorities, more than 400 delegates from various developers, constructions and association of civil engineers and 6 power packed interaction session.

The VIP dignitaries included;
Shri Ramnath Rai - Hon'ble Minister for Forest, Environment and Ecology, Govt of Karnataka

Sustainable Smart Cities India

Swachhtta Shapath - A step in the direction of Swachh bharat Abhiyan, was taken by the delegates showing their will to act responsibly to the ever raising challenge of pollution and global warming.

Shri A B Ibrahim IAS presented the opening keynote presentation on 'Envisioning Mangaluru as a Smart City'

Experts from 10 city muncipalities also participated in the conference -keen to know about the ways they can adopt to get  their cities rated with in the top 20.

Several topics crucial for the effective working of smart cities were taken up and discussed, some of them being :
Knowledge, Wellness and Sports city as Economic Growth centres
Integrated multi model transport hub
Air and Noise Pollution Issues for smart cities
Path breaking Pan city initiatives identified for Mangaluru.

The Eminent speakers and the panelists were easily able to forth the different aspects of smart city planning as  was evident from the curiosity of the audience.They got a clearer picture about their responsibility both as an organisation and an individual.

The interactive session thrown open after the panel discussion saw huge takers since the topic being discussed were of utmost relevance and it was the need of the hour to know about the pros'and cons'  of planning a smart city and the preliminary analysis of the effects it can have on the city. 

The conference concluded with a discussion on the SPV (Special Purpose Vehicles)for smart cities.

The valedictory speech was given by U T Khader, Hon'ble Miinster for Health and Family Welfare. In his speech, he stressed on the importance of health in Smart cities. he said that along with the technical and infrastructural smartness we bring in, citizens' and cities' health is something that should be given serious thought.
