Aarti Aggarwal- Creative Head, House Of Design

House of Design was born as an upshot of a dream that was pivoted around expressions- expressions of a personality, of craft and that of innate nature of elements that Aarti Agarwal wanted to work with. A furniture store, no ordinary has spread out to become one of the biggest furniture retail ventures in the country.

Wooden Wall Accents

The driving force behind it all was the founder herself - Miss Aggarwal. Her keen design sensibility and extreme love for Indian art and culture inspired her to enter into a venture that has touched the lives of discerning Indian customers and a multitude of fashion and lifestyle designers who are their esteemed partners.

Aarti, who studied domestic design at the University of Arts, London knew better how to give wings to her dream. In a short interview with us, she shares what drives her vision and how House of Design is all about exclusive design that solves everyday problems.

How did you begin your business?

Being a Chair design specialist from Danish Skole of Design, Copenhagen, I started designing chairs for my clients. The chair design business was an upsurge. The clients wanted more. Soon the chair design was accompanied with tables, beds, consoles and more. And at present, we have an enormous retail outlet in the heart of Delhi.

What inspired you?

Strong appeal for Indian art and crafts and love for the inherent elements of nature were what inspired me and this passion was indeed driven by my Chair Design Skills.

What makes your product different?

We are driven by daily household problems faced by our customers. The problems allow us to think creatively and thus design functional and multipurpose furniture.

The Dining Table

For instance, this Mardi Grass Dining table is equipped with crockery, cutlery and not to mention custom designed lighting installations to create the perfect setting.

The dining Cabinet

And this dining cabinet backed by enough storage racks is multipurpose and fully functional...You can stack in enough wine bottles in those shutters below and bake /grill your food at the same time. Table top incorporates charging points where you can charge your phone.

We also design furniture composed of different materials. For e.g. - The Mardi Grass dining table legs are composed of polished aluminum and incorporate a dark walnut stained wooden tree trunk.

Can you brief us a little about the Mardi Grass Concept?

Mardi Grass is the most awaited Carnival festival in France which welcomes the arrival of spring. The festival involves eating sumptuous food on the last day of feasting before the abstinence of Lent begins. The Dining table in the display is designed in the same context and so is the buffet counter.

Tell us something about the technology you use...

We use avant-garde technology in manufacture and design of products. We are the only furniture store using 5 Axis CNC router whose rotational axis cuts through the material brilliantly. Amalgamation of different materials, seasoning of wood and shot blasting of metals are done with meticulous care and attention.
