"Interior Designing is an adventure in sophistication" says the young, founder and chief designer of Anish Motwani Associates, Mumbai. In this freewheeling interview, he shares what drives the ultimate designs and decor styles which have won him many accolades from both the media and the industry experts. True to its motto of making sense out of space, his firm ensures a client's dream manifests in their spaces. His design influences are grounded in a mix of contemporary culture and futuristic trends. “There is too much noise in design currently” hence tapping the current focus on functionality without clutter, he ensures the interior design spaces he designs are spacious, serene, and quiet. For more, read on what the designer has to say:
Tell us something about your approach to your projects.
We take each space individually. Every project/space has its individual indentity which we try to maintin. First thing is to know the requirements for the space from the client and than start planning and designing process.
What defines your style?
ANISH MOTWANI ASSOCIATES believes and the motto of the company is "MAKING SENSE OUT OF SPACE". This motto we firmly believe in and makes way to our style.
Which kind of projects do you enjoy the most?
All projects are our baby. Personally to me what motivates more is open spaces where one can play around alot.
Who/what inspires you and your works?
Insipiration for me comes from inside. when i am happy i design and when not i travel. process of designing doesnt come every minute. ... ZAHA Hadid is good, her work speaks alot.
Do you feel architects and designers should be concerned about environmental sustainability?
100%.. every one should think about the environment. Once you leave the metro cities and travel abroad or in parts of India, one will realise how beautiful it is to be in nature and to maintain it.
What has been your biggest challenge so far?
Each project is a challenge. To make it good and nice is a challenge in itself.
What drives you?
WHAT DRIVES me is passion for designing, meeting new people and understanding their tastes. travelling. and most of all smiles on faces when we handover the project.
Any words of wisdom for youngsters starting out today.
BE YOU.. When time is right HIT it hard.
