PRAGATI JAIN

Ms.Pragati Jain is a passionate interior designer who holds the prestigious position of the chairperson of the Indian Institute of Interior Designers- Indore chapter. After completing Interior design program at SNDT, Mumbai in 1986, she established her practice in Indore. Since then she has been a pioneer of this field of design, and has been working to raise awareness about the importance of a well-designed environment in everyday lives.

As a versatile designer, she has dealt with an array of commercial and residential projects including corporate and pharmaceutical offices, hotels, clinics, jewellery stores and numerous residences.She has also worked on the restoration of heritage buildings and a few Indian temples, which has been appreciated across the country. The designs take shape after an in depth research of the clients lifestyle and needs. Having devoted her professional life to strive for their satisfaction, her works are known for their immaculate functionality and their judicious use of space. Her designs strive to be minimal, and yet have a traditional essence that is achieved through an extensive use of natural materials, traditional arts and Indian handicrafts.

She believes that the role of a designer goes beyond merely designing luxurious homes, to spreading design to a larger mass- a vision to work towards which she initiated the cleaning-up of slums in Indore. Further, through her plastic-free campaign that aims to completely rid the city of plastic, she has been instrumental in making the women of these communities self sufficient by guiding them to design, make and sell eco-friendly bags from recycled cloth and paper.

Ms. Pragati Jain's body of work has won accolades and prizes from time to time. She was awarded the Stylish Designer Award by INIFD in 2016, the award for Outstanding Contribution of Interior and Architecture in the Reality Kings Awards and has also won awards in the Home Sweet Home Contest. She has recently shown her prowess in leadership and efficient management by successfully hosting NATCON, 2016 IMAGINE ( a national convention of IIID with 2000+ members alongwith international speakers from all over the world) as a Convener.The purpose of NATCON and DESIGN YATRA 2017 was Taking Design To The Masses.The event was covered by NDTV Good Times. She has recently completed her 3 year tenure as the Chairperson of IIID Indore Centre recently.She was invited as a guest speaker in Vibrant Ceramics 2016 held in Ahmedabad. She has recently been honoured with prestigious WEF Award of “Exceptional Women of Excellence 2017” in New Delhi.

Pragati envisions the future of Indian interior design to revolve locally available materials and the amalgamation of Indian art and crafts with a contemporary expression to suite aesthetic needs. She wants young designers to innovate responsibly and create designs that sensitively encompass energy and resource optimisation. This, she believes, would truly make a distinct expression.
