'Safari' is a term coined for journey in Swahili language. Internationally acclaimed Eleven magazine has lately come up with yet another innovative design competition based on the concept for a super sensory safari lodge in the heart of Matobo National Park. Speaking of Matobo, a sanctuary for the endangered rhino species, is listed among UNESCO participants, and therefore is a a crucial spot aiding in the conservation of these species. It houses a whole variety of the African wildlife, making the place a magical and adventurous safari engaging the visitors by providing them a chance to explore the nature and culture of Africa. 
Eleven magazine in collaboration with their partners African Bush Camps, an award winning African-based Safari Company, has announced their eighth international architecture & design competition to ‘Safari: Zimbabwe 2017’. The magazine’s latest challenge calls on innovative ideas for design from worldwide to design innovative concepts for a super sensory safari lodge in the heart of Matobo National Park.

Aim: 

Eleven wants to take you through their competition across a journey into the romance of the wild, sharing with you the customs, local rituals and the beating heart of adventurous Africa. What's new to this? This innovative super sensory safari lodge concept the likes of which the world has never seen before, nestled in the heart of Matobo's granite rock formations and mysterious ancient rock paintings. It targets to transform architecture as a mechanism to experience this magical journey.

Challenges:

The magazine calls in all creatives whether students or professionals, compiling their creative juices developing a super sensory safari lodge, the first one in the world, which uses design as a pivotal part of the experience. 

Eligibility: 

Creatives listed among professionals and/or students can join in. Participants, can compete individually or in a team of up to two people. 

Prize: 

Winner: 

2 safari places (per team) onto African Bush Camps’ April (9-15) or June (8-14) 2018 Super Sensory Safari worth $8,000 USD (excluding international flights to/from Zimbabwe).

Runner-Up: 

£400 and African Bush Camps’ new limited edition Safari Book

People’s Choice Award (selected by general public voting online): £100 and African Bush Camps’ new limited edition Safari Book. 

6x Honourable Mentions: no cash (boo) but lots of glory (yay)!

Schedule:

The competition, which officially opens for registration on Monday the 11th of September 2017, is scheduled to run for four months, closing on the 11th of January 2018 at 11:00am (UK Time).
