We have had enough of walls- walls which divide the space, walls that are symbol of separation. It high time we realised that there are plenty of options than those stubborn walls, if it is some privacy all we seek. Room dividers can be one of them.
Room dividers are of great help, not just with the obvious reason of dividing a room, but with hiding the mess, creating a hidden storage space, ensuring privacy to the space and above all adding some accent to the room.
As are the number of uses of a room divider, so are the types of room dividers screens, each serving a different purpose.
Shoji screens are translucent paper over a frame of wood that can be used in making doors, windows and room dividers. These have been a part of traditional Japanese architecture which is now gaining popularity across the globe.
Drape screens are more or less sheer curtains which are used for windows. But very few of us see them as room dividers, which when used in appropriate shade and pattern can beautify the space.
Unlike shoji screens, these come in a number of beautiful colours giving you a wider option to choose from, although making it hard to settle on one.
Wooden screens for room dividers can be an excellent choice to add a contemporary look to the space. The one with intricate pattern resembling the Mughal window cornices, on the other hand can give a medieval touch to your interiors.
These are probably the most versatile of all since there come endless designs and patterns in acrylic. These are screens that can be hung from the ceiling or attached with walls depending upon the space.
Paper room dividers
Paper screens are the ones fit for 'DIYs. And being an easy one to try at home, it depends a lot on your creativity how this will turn out. Nevertheless, these are also readily available to buy at stores for those who like it the easy way.
Many of us are true nature lovers, atleast in our own ways. We love to keep it natural whenever possible as we believe that no man-made items can beat the beauty of nature. Bamboo is one such creations which has been our choice, in decorating our homes, especially when hard wood is facing a hard time with over exploitation.
Woven bamboo, whether its a basket, a chair or a room divider, is an absolute piece of beauty to have at home.
Tainted/ frosted glass screens
For those mesmerised by the colourful glass windows of English cathedral, tainted or frosted glass for room dividers can fulfil the dream of having them at home. Not only do they turn the room dividers into a piece of art, when set against the sunlight, these can fill the room with colourful light when the rays from the sun come piercing through them.
