Dattaguru Villa, Residential-Single family dwelling

Project Status: Completed

The brief for this 3000 sq.ft. guesthouse, situated in Chembur, one of the Mumbai suburbs, was for a stylish yet comfortable home, exuding a pared down luxury and soothing ambiance. The architect seeks to create a city home with an emphasis on clean lines and luxury materials with minimum decoration, putting more emphasis on accenting the comfort and spaciousness of the space. The design manifests a kindred relation between colors figures and qualities through coordination of material texture, furniture, and lighting fixtures and daylighting. Emphasis was laid on creating an interior/exterior environment that is communicative and integrated into the existing surrounding and yet it provides a degree of privacy to the inhabitants. The garden in the front was created to further open up and integrate the space, allowing more light penetration and connection with the immediate environment. One enters in and traverses his way to the entrance, the unwinding pathway giving a sense of entry. The interiors of the place exude comfort and luxury in an eclectic fashion. The architect has very boldly used combinations that we rarely see. An expensive Italian marble top dining table is abutted by rustic cane chairs, against the backdrop of an exposed brick wall and a cantilevered staircase , and next to it in the living room, you will find a rustic wooden trunk centre table sits comfortably with a chic contemporary sofa. An incredible blend of modern contemporary and natural elements. From sculptures, paintings and door accessories, everything has been handpicked by the architect and tastefully articulated in her design.
