ANJAN GUPTA ARCHITECTS
Kolkata, West Bengal, India-700031 Indian Oil Petronas Pvt. Ltd. Office, Commercial-Office Complex
This project is a joint venture of IndianOil and Petronas, Malaysia. The main objective of the design was to create a space of international standards with an ambience which would be vibrant, inspiring & conducive to modern working keeping in mind its flexibility and the prospect of future growth. The challenge was to create an image for the company which would project its multifaceted growth, globally. The organization of spaces is based on the hierarchy of functions. The space planning follows symmetry around a central axis. All the cabins, board room, conference room and services have been laid out along the periphery. The open offices/workstations have been placed in between the service core & peripheral offices. The service core which consists of A.H.U./electrical rooms and toilet blocks, was originally designed for two separate spaces as per site. However, when both spaces merged into one, the toilets were modified and an internal passage was created, interlinking both sides of the axis. The service core has been extended to provide pantry and cafeteria which act as a collaborative space and become the metaphor for the heart of this office. The reception lobby is a point of arrival and designed to be inviting and dramatic in nature. The sculptural form of the reception desk along with a curvilinear ceiling, wall & floor pattern, wraps all around the central service core to add fluidity and dynamism within the otherwise linear arrangement of spaces. Full height glass partitions bring in more natural daylight as well as establish visual connections all across the space, from indoor to outdoor. State of-the-art audio-visual and other technologies have also been incorporated in the design. Acoustical requirements in office planning have been taken care of by using suitable materials. Color & lighting play an important role in the space by creating area specific effects. Sustainable & energy saving design has been achieved by utilizing LED lighting as well LEED certified materials discreetly. The design satisfies the present and addresses the future.
