"Let me take you down cause I'm going to strawberry fields"- The Beatles A friend of ours who is an engineer and a hard-core fan of the Beatles wanted to open a cafe out of passion for coffee and music. An amateur in business, he had very low budget for the project. This was an exciting and challenging opportunity for us to design his cafe. We decided to design him a retro coffee house named "Strawberry fields" based on 60's and 70's theme with a very cosy and rustic ambience. Budget being the major constrain we ventured out in Guwahati to find materials that best suited our requirements. The materials we found where mostly construction waste like bamboo props (used for making most of the furniture), shuttering wooden planks(used for flooring and furniture), locally woven coir products and scrap metal (mezzanine floor and stairs) which we were able to use artistically with the help of local bamboo artisans. The logo, graphics and the typography has been designed to suit the client's requirements while keeping in mind themes like Beatles; 70's color combinations, local culture and coffee lovers. The wall graphics developed by us was painted by students from nearby art school. This gave the cafe an ecologically sensitive atmosphere with a sense of informality and familiarity. The process of execution of this project and the eco-friendly output along with its exquisite menu has been deeply appreciated by the locals and therefore it has received recognition in the local newspaper.
