Garden Residence,Bhubaneswar, Odisha, Residential-Single family dwellingProject Status: Completed
The 45 feet X 50 feet plot is only accessible from the north-eastern side with 20 feet wide road. Its located in one of the residential area of Bhubaneswar developed in early 2000s catering to the expanding population of the city. The site is surrounded by residential plots on all three sides. The house was designed for a family of four members, which will be used mostly by the parents after their retirement. While their children would often visit them on their holidays.
As the site is very small the design has to be minimalist. The design has to be cube to make it efficient in terms of spaces, where it was made interesting by addition and subtraction of the spaces from the ecluidean space. The front facade was the only side where you can get a clear view. Also as there are no green spaces or parks close by so the terrace garden was introduced.
The terrace garden was placed on the north eastern side for a better view and the pergola adds up to the aesthetic of the building as well gives an impression of floating cover to the terrace garden. The front facade is kept transparent to allow ample of natural light entering the living rooms. The double height balcony at the first floor gives a great sense of space. The blank wall of the staircase was treated with texture paint and slit windows in a pattern to have a dramatic effect of light and shadow of the west sun.
