Budapest Museum, Public Spaces-[]

Budapest is planning to renovate its historical City Park by adding a series of brand new museums. LEAD developed two of these buildings at the edge of the park where they simultaneously function as architectural emblems and as a cultural gateway.

The museums’ design is founded on a highly innovative, sustainable, and structurally efficient wooden roof concept, with which a welcoming and vibrant house is created for the display, research, and storage of Hungary’s cultural highlights. The public gathering spaces are organically shaped and celebrate the dramatic geometries the structural system brings. Operational areas and exhibition spaces adopt a more rational layout. All functions of the building are easily accessible via four carefully designed circulation system. These allow for the parallel operation of public exhibitions, office functions, art handling, storage & research, and teaching & learning.

The design explores how the strategic appropriation of computational tools and local craftsmanship allow for highly innovative, cost-effective and sustainable design solutions with distinctive spatial properties and a unique architectural identity.
