Filtered Light, Commercial-Office Complex

We moved out of our Sewri office recently and have made Prabhadevi our new home. The new space is approximately 175sq.ft with a mezzanine level. We were delighted to find this ground floor unit in a fairly quiet industrial estate.

Being located on the ground floor we had to address some safety concerns and dress up our partial storefront. We took this opportunity to have some fun – we replaced the traditional jali with perforated MS metal panels. The sheets were perforated with openings of varying types; punched, hinged and pivoted. These strategically placed openings filter the afternoon light and act as rays of inspiration driving creativity.

The same language has been carried through in designing the material/ books library located on the mezzanine level that doubles up as a railing as well. The visual weight of the book case has been lightened by constructing them using modular sizes and perforating the birch ply panels. The desks have been constructed using birch ply tops and old Burma teak legs to provide sturdiness and some warmth.

Our new den is our haven. With our new office we have got the opportunity to reintroduce ourselves. In this new space we are looking to tell more stories – whether they are about an object, a place or the process itself. Staying curious.
