New Delhi, Delhi, India-110045 Khurana House, Residential-multi-family dwelling
This was a renovation project in 450 sq.yds. The ground & first floors were built earlier and second floor was to be added. The challange was that the second floor space arrangement was to be completely different from the lower floors. Since both the lower floors were load bearing, traditional designs, it was structurally impossible to provide a composite structure and a second floor with a different layout. But, an innovative structural solution was provided which was incorporated with an architectural vocabulary which camouflaged the structural elements. The upper floor layout was hence designed with free flowing spaces independent of the structural constraints. The elevation of the entire building was completely redone with contemporary elements, transforming the old building completely. The internal spaces were required to be simple and contemporary, with a tinge of tradition.
