New Delhi, Delhi, India-110045 Srivastav House, Residential-Single family dwelling
The design is a contemporary residential projectin 350 sq.yds. The main feature of the design includes a passive response to Delih's extreme climatic conditions. This was initially contradicitng with the client's requirements of an open house with free flowing spaces exploiting the corner location. Hence the plan was a three side open building with large multi functional spaces connecting floors via double height spaces. But, with passive heating and colling techniques the house was so designed to keep the internal spaces cooler in summers and warm in winters, despite the large openings. Apart from this the architectural vocabulary was required to be simple and modest. The form of the building also responds to the sun movement and all round the year the building and spaces display a dramatic play of light and shadows.
