Calicut, Kerala, India-673004 Kaav Phase 2 Tents, Karanataka, Hospitality-Others
Set amidst the serene environs of the Nagarhole wildlife sanctuary, Kaav Safari Lodge is a boutique property that offers tastefully refined ambience for a sojourn in the wilderness. A very porous perimeter defines the property that sits right at the edge of the forest and offers a tranquil atmosphere, one filled with the delightful symphony of the national park. It is this context that the design of the safari lodge tries to address.
The first phase of the development had a nondescript two storeyed structure in the property, raised on stilts, which was adaptively reused to create a space which enhances the theme of earthy elegance and complements the context of the jungle. The architectural interventions are restrained. The ambience is a dialogue between heavy and light, closed and open, rough and smooth, light and shadows. The spaces are done minimalistically to avoid clutter, providing a setting without distractions to totally unwind and relax.
While designing the second phase of the project, it was felt that nothing epitomizes the context of the jungle better than a tent, which conjures up images of the rugged outdoors. Exposed areca wood and canvas present a hardy exterior which hides the refined luxury of the interiors containing a simple living space. A free standing tub and wash area defines an open spatial arrangement in the interior. A protruding deck finished in saw cut timber offers a relaxing ambience for one to take in the beauty of the jungle and hear the soothing sounds of nature.
